UNA HISTORIA DE AMISTAD Y DESARROLLO
Hace más de 20 años dos buenos amigos del mundo del café se dieron cuenta de las necesidades que afrontaban varias de las personas que trabajan en la industria y decidieron, a través de un gesto de amistad, apoyarles con algo muy importante: La educación de sus hijos. Comenzaron comprando libros y útiles y siguieron trabajando poco a poco hasta construir una escuela, pues los niños no contaban con una.
Los amigos también notaron preocupados que los alumnos necesitaban no solamente educación, si no una buena alimentación que les permitiera estar saludables y desarrollar sus habilidades en clase. Entonces los amigos siguieron trabajando hasta crear un programa nutricional y contrataron a un médico que visitaba y atendía la escuela todas las semanas.
Con el tiempo, el apoyo y el cariño, los niños y niñas de la comunidad comenzaron a fortalecerse y a estar más sanos. Tanto así, que para el ciclo escolar 2024, Marisol, una de las estudiantes que logró graduarse como parte de la primera promoción de la escuela, regresó convertida en una maestra. Había continuado sus estudios secundarios y universitarios, hasta el día de hoy. Está feliz de poder regresar y retribuir a esa escuela que cambió su vida.
La historia tuvo un giro inesperado cuando uno de los dos amigos decidió que no podía seguir apoyando al proyecto. El otro, decidió continuar y a través de un gran esfuerzo logró encontrar a otros amigos con los que compartía la misma idea de apoyar a las personas del mundo del café. Entonces, ya no fue sólo una escuela la que construyeron, sino 5; y los alumnos pasaron de ser 15 a 400 cada año. Además, construyeron clínicas, guarderías, empoderaron a mujeres que ahora son empresarias, y principalmente siguieron apoyando a sus socios comerciales para que mejoraran aún más su producción de café.
Y a pesar de algún tropiezo que tuvieron en el camino, estos amigos han continuado avanzando, siguiendo sus principios y pasión. Y es Gracias a ello que la industria del café celebra hoy una historia de más de 20 años llamada Coffee Care, que con el esfuerzo de Unitrade Coffee y el apoyo incondicional de sus amigos de Caribou Coffee, Tchibo, Cup for Education, The Rogers Family Foundation, Ishmitsu Coffee, St. Dreux, Starbucks Coffee y muchos más, sigue trabajando para hacer que la industria del café sea más justa, especialmente en Guatemala.
Gracias a nuestros lectores y amantes del café por acompañarnos a develar parte del trabajo, esfuerzo y participación que existe detrás de cada taza de café.

A STORY OF FRIENDSHIP AND DEVELOPMENT
Over 20 years ago, two close friends from the coffee world recognized the needs faced by many individuals working in the industry. Through a gesture of friendship, they decided to support them with something very important: the education of their children. They began by buying books and supplies and gradually worked to build a school, as the children did not have one.
The friends also noticed with concern that the students needed not only education but also good nutrition to keep them healthy and develop their skills in class. So, the friends continued working to create a nutritional program and hired a doctor who visited the school every week.
Over time, with support and care, the boys and girls in the community began to strengthen and become healthier. So much so that for the 2024 school year, Marisol, one of the students who graduated as part of the first class of the school, returned to it now as a teacher. She had continued her secondary and university studies, up to the present day. She is happy to be able to return and give back to that school that changed her life.
The story took an unexpected turn when one of the two friends decided he could not continue supporting the project. The other decided to continue and, through great effort, managed to find other friends who shared the same idea of supporting people in the coffee world. So, it was no longer just one school they built, but 5; and the students went from being 15 to 400 each year. Additionally, they built clinics, daycares, empowered women who are now entrepreneurs, and primarily continued to support their business partners to further improve their coffee production.
And despite some setbacks along the way, these friends continued their mission following their principles and passion. It is thanks to this that the coffee industry celebrates today a story of over 20 years called Coffee Care, which with the effort of Unitrade Coffee and the unwavering support of their friends from Caribou Coffee, Tchibo, Cup for Education, The Rogers Family Foundation, Ishmitsu Coffee, St. Dreux, Starbucks Coffee, and many more, continues to work to make the coffee industry fairer, especially in Guatemala.
